Your Design Project - what we do & what it will cost

Garden design or Interior design? Design one with the other in mind and the result will be a harmonious environment in which to live, rest and play.

"With the crucial plan you have the overall vision of what you are trying to create"

"The design phase is not to be rushed. Expect to change your mind as new possibilities are suggested, to refine your ideas as the process progresses. Once you have the planning stage spot-on, everything else falls into place"

Whether you prefer a contemporary garden design, relaxed outdoor living under a pergola or just a revitalised planting scheme, we can help.

The Process

Whether we come to you or work remotely via photos and email, the process is largely the same.

1.Consultation Once you make contact we will meet to discuss your needs and dreams. This is an obligation-free chat about what you've got and what you would like, your budget and ideas. If we are working remotely, we will ask you to complete a questionnaire and send us site photos.

2. Confirmation A summary of our discussion is sent to you. This report confirms the design brief and includes our quote for the level of service you desire. This is when you formally engage us, or not.

3. Site Survey A survey of the house and /or garden is undertaken in order to draw scaled plans (If you have a scaled plan drawing already, we will use that. If not the survey will be priced at current commercial rates)

4. Concept Plan This is the first design phase. We produce a scaled concept plan. This plan includes the ideas previously discussed and highlights how your interior or garden space could be developed. (Generally between £500 and £1000 depending on size of house or garden. Or, from £200 if using our online design service) Some people opt for this service if they intend to install the design themselves.

5 . Review A meeting to discuss the concept plan, note any required changes, prepare the revised plan and resubmit.

6. Outline plan The final design phase. We produce a detailed hand-drawn, hand-coloured, scaled presentation plan which indicates materials, furnishings, hard landscaping, structures, shapes of beds and borders etc. This plan has sufficient detail to be used by contractors (from £500, depending on size and the degree of detail required)

7. Planting Plan A detailed planting plan for your garden is available (from £200) . You can buy plants at wholesale prices through us. Check here for this month's availability.

8. Additional Design Services

  • Project management of the installation by local contractors and a full planting service are recommended. In this way we can ensure that your garden design and home interior are developed according to plan.
  • You can save money and time by asking us to source unusual, rare or mature plants (we pass on wholesale discount prices to you).
  • We also offer a home staging service to ensure a quick sale of your home at a good price.
  • Purchasing of furniture, soft furnishings and art.
  • Garden maintenance schedules - we can source qualified gardeners to look after your new grounds, or leave you with a handy guide of what needs doing when
  • Bespoke Design advice - we will assist you to whatever level you require. Some people just need to know they are on the right track, others require a full design and build service.

NOTE: We will provide a design you can install in stages as time and funds permit, or all at once.

The most important thing you can do in advance of bringing in a designer is to think about your space and what you want from it. Your needs analysis must answer the following:

  • What do you want to do in the space?
  • When - what time of day - do you want to use the space?
  • How many people will use the space at one time?
  • Will animals, muddy boots, gym gear, office equipment share the space?
  • What spaces connect visually or physically with the space you are working on? How may this change with the designs for this space?
  • What is your budget?
  • How long do you intend to stay in your home?
  • How can you incorporate renewable energy into the design?
  • Is the household gray water being collected on-site and reused?
  • Is there sufficient storage for rainwater runoff to supply the household or garden needs?
How to add value to your home

If you are selling your home, then it`s perfectly reasonable to want to get the best price you can for it. In order to add value to your house or flat, there are a number of measures that you could take. Most will require an initial outlay, but this could well be recouped through the increased value of your home when the time comes to selling it.

- Add a second bathroom
Having an extra bathroom, or making one of the bedrooms en-suite (putting an adjoining toilet and shower in the room) is very desirable for prospective home buyers, so installing one is a good way of adding value. As far as the bathroom goes, the more modern it is the better.

- Covert your loft
Most lofts are used for storing away clutter and junk that isn`t needed anymore, but converting it into practical space can make for a more valuable home. A loft conversion can make for a great bedroom, spare room or even home office space, so potential buyers and estate agents often perceive them to be a big plus point.

- Fit a new kitchen
Having a gleaming new kitchen loaded with all the mod-cons will make your house more appealing to buyers, so consider investing in new surfaces, floors and equipment for your kitchen in order to get a better price for your home.

- Redecorate
If you`ve been at the home you intend to sell for a number of years now, then chances are that it will have a distinctively `lived-in` feel to it. To remedy this, you could redecorate the entire house - giving it a new lick of paint or wallpaper and maybe even new carpets and flooring, to encourage buyers into giving you a better offer.

- Add a conservatory or summer house
Having a space where you can be `outdoors, but indoors` like a conservatory or summer house can make your house more appealing to buyers and result in you getting a better offer.

- Sort out your garden
You can make your garden more appealing by having decking fitted. You could plant flowers, trim the hedge or even add a water feature to your garden. A messy, overgrown garden is likely to make your house less attractive to buyers, not least because of the substantial amount of effort and time prospective owners will have to invest in sorting it out!

- Make your home look like it`s for sale
It can be difficult if you`re currently residing there, but making your home look as if it is for sale rather than currently being lived in can add a surprising amount of value to your home. So ensure that your house has been fastidiously cleaned from top to bottom. The best thing about this measure is that it won`t cost any money!

When the time does come to moving into your new home, why not compare home insurance online to make sure you get a good deal?
